Ala carte isn't perfectly alien to the cable marketing scheme. HBO, Showtime and other premium channels are sold apart. So it can be done. Since surveys have shown that most households watch only a dozen or fewer channels with any stability, why shouldn't all cable networks be sold on an individual basis?
